Module Topic: Conflict Resolution Suggested Timeframe: 4 Hours Suggested Number of Participants: 10-12 Instructor:Donald Rheem
Conflict at some level exists in all organizations and within virtually all relationships. Sometimes it bubbles (or erupts) to the surface; in other cases it can remain covert, just below the surface. In both cases, it can make relationships and the workplace feel toxic, and the resulting impact on people and productivity can be devastating. Of the employees who quit an organization, 85% say the primary reason they did so was a result of a toxic relationship with their immediate supervisor.
Rather than seeking to blame or judge those who become embroiled in conflict, Engagient focuses instead on identifying the primary reasons for conflict in the workplace and to build awareness, skills, and resilience for employees. Effective conflict resolution requires more than conveying traditional negation skills. The research points to the need for a better understanding of the role of emotion in triggering human behavior and the role of anger, anxiety, and a lack of felt safety.

Why does conflict happen?
What happens to us during conflict?
Proven techniques for de-escalating highly charged situations
Having gone through the process now for a second time, I am an even more ardent supporter of the power of ‘engagement’ than I was before. I have found it rewarding to observe my sales leadership crew arrive at that same conclusion. This process measures the right things and provides a great framework to address shortcomings and improve where we need to.
The quality of our strengthening plans in this second round of the HPCA is much more focused and will drive the right results for us going in to this downturn.
Thanks again for your guidance.
